Labor Day, Monday, September 01, 2008
Well, it was fun reading your fun things you all did this weekend. Me – I worked Labor Day, 7:30 a to 3:30 p. Well, it was more like 4:15 by the time I left. Gabe relieved me at 3:30, and it’s very easy to just stop to talk – work can be very interesting at Washington Oakes! ;) But I’ll leave those stories for another time. . .
After work, Ric and I went shopping for a new printer. We’d been looking a little, and happened on a whiz-bang machine: HP C7280. It’s an all-in-one scanner, copier, fax, printer. We’d like to get rid of our scanner, and eventually our fax/phone, (if I can figure out how to make the new fax part work) and have it all in one, and then just a smaller cordless phone on the counter – maybe one with a few handsets w/docking stations, and ALWAYS a speaker phone! That’s for family visits! ;) But that will be down the road. The new printer will be helpful for dad and enlarging his music more easily, and it does a wonderful job of printing photos, for those occasions when I actually print them. Will print directly from the memory cards. Nice. Even has a little readout screen on the front, about the same size as the camera. [Edit. Comment, 9/7/08 - Finally got the printer working tonight, after dad spent over 5 hours online with tech support in the Philippines for the installation! :( Here's hoping the rest of the learning curve will go a little better!]
I gotta tell ya, Staples has an amazing deal. We bought a $40 policy – not exactly an extended warranty - it's much more. It’s covered for 2 years, 100%. And if we decide at the end of 2 years we want to upgrade, they will give us full price to trade in on another model. How do they make any money? INK! Although this machine’s ink is pretty reasonable compared to what we’ve been paying for our Epson ink. AND, Staples has a rewards program of 10% return on all paper/ink purchases, and mail services. Too bad that doesn’t include printers, too!
This is getting long again. I started out to tell you that I had fun with Noah outside, Saturday, I think it was. Took pictures that will be self explanatory, and then practiced with my camera a little on my yard. If you’ve not seen the yard in a while, enjoy!
